Queen Elizabeth's Golden Dress

Getting done up as Good Queen Bess as portrayed in "Elizabeth: the Golden Age" was a suggestion from a friend who probably had no idea that I'd look at a few screencaps and fall into gibbering lust. I hope she didn't, anyway, because this dress is a terrible thing to deliberately inflict on someone. The movie won a costuming Oscar, and while it wasn't just for this dress...well, have a look.

I'm not going to look that awesome. I'm comfy with that. For one, I'm not Cate Blanchett--that long, elegantly conical torso is beyond my grasp no matter what shaping garments I wear. Neither do I have a budget of thousands, a stable of couture minions, or any amount of boiled silk chiffon. But enough disclaimers and self-doubt! Let's get this magnificent mother#$!%er off the ground!

Part 1: Scaffolding (underpinnings)

Part 2: Drywall (base dress construction)

Part 3: Paint and Paper (embellishment)

Part 4: Home Decor (ruff, 'wings', wig and crown, all the little junk that goes at the end)
