ZOMG Smells (perfume!)

I made this!

These are some of the costumes I've put together. Goodness knows I've done more than these, but these costumes are the ones for which I am 100% responsible. Currently, everything but Queen Elizabeth leads to a basic offsite profile for that costume. I'm working on that.

Below the costumes is a list of resources for materials and construction that I found really helpful and that I hope will help you too!

Queen Elizabeth, "Golden Dress" [Elizabeth: the Golden Age]

Grecian Cave Swallow [Pet Shop of Horrors, Tokyo series]

Queen Marie [Le Chevalier d'Eon (anime)]

Sylphide [Trinity Blood (novels)]

Gilgamesh [Final Fantasy XII]

Sevotharte [Angel Sanctuary]

(resources below, keep scrolling. :) )

*Tutorials/Guidance*

Your Wardrobe Unlock'd: the Costume Maker's Companion -- In-depth studies of historical garments and sewing techniques, tutorials out the wazoo, lovingly researched tutorials and advice for making beautiful historic clothes from a huge span of time. (full disclosure: this site has a subscription fee, which I consider very much worth it. If you decide to subscribe based on my reference, I get a kickback.)

(sister site to Your Wardrobe Unlock'd: Foundations Revealed - the Corsetmaker's Companion)

The Costumer's Guide to Movie Costumes -- Screenshots, photos of exhibits, and costume analysis with a focus on reproduction. Best place to find out what some particularly fiddly detail looks like up-close.

The Reniassance Tailor -- An absolutely magnificent guide to basic pattern drafting and garment construction, plus specialized guidance for 16th and 17th century articles of clothing. Ruffs! Gloves! Make your own trim!

*Fabric*

Fabric.com -- Sells fabric. Lots of fabric. All kinds of fabric. Very generous free shipping policy.

Silk Baron -- Silk fabrics, especially dupioni, available at good prices and in an array of colors seen nowhere else.

Dharma Trading -- Undyed natural-fiber fabric and the dyes that work on it, plus iPoly for synthetics. I heart their 3mm silk chiffon so much.

And the always-favorite: cut-up bedding and curtains from Goodwill.

*Embellishment* (beads/trim/whatever)

Jan's Jewelry Supplies -- A source for unusual colors and shapes of rhinestones, rhinestone settings, and various faceted glass beads, filigrees, and cameos. A true life-saver for vintage bling components.

Freedom Crystals -- Chandelier replacement parts. That sounds not-terribly-useful until you notice that it means crystal drops, beaded chain by the yard, pendants, cut glass in odd shapes, and wholesale prices. Brilliant. Some day I'll find a costume that makes use of their Crystal Fluted Scroll.

Heritage Trading (Ebay) -- New handmade bullion trim, among other freakishly wonderful things. Has supplied multiple TV and movie sets with trim and ornaments and will sell them to you too. Very graciously priced for the quality involved.

Shipwreck Beads -- Things with holes in them and related materials. Excellent assortment of Czech cut and pressed glass, fancy stone, and mixtures. I mean they've got everythig ELSE, too, but.

Fire Mountain Gems -- More things with holes! Lots of pretty much everything.
